Sample article draft · legal accuracy and firm scope must be reviewed before publication.
Lead with the question
Write down what you need help deciding or understanding. A brief summary in your own words is often more useful than a long account with no clear question.
Note the important people, dates and events. If there is a deadline, say so at the beginning. Bring or identify documents that relate directly to the issue.
Ask how the engagement works
At an initial discussion, ask whether the firm can assist, what work would be included, what information is needed, how fees are assessed and what the next step would be. The firm should confirm its scope and engagement terms directly with you.
A message or website form is only an initial inquiry. It does not automatically create a lawyer–client relationship, and you should avoid sending highly confidential information before the firm confirms an appropriate channel.
Keep expectations clear
The purpose of a first conversation is to understand the matter and discuss possible next steps. A specific legal opinion or representation requires a defined scope and formal engagement.
This draft is general information, not legal advice. It has not been reviewed or approved by the firm. Do not rely on it for a decision about a specific matter.
